How to Find Calm by Clearing My Space - Part 1!
For ages, I told myself I could “cope just fine” in a messy space. Clothes draped over chairs, random bits and bobs stuffed in drawers, a desk that somehow always looked like a disaster zone. But truthfully? It was exhausting. Even when I wasn’t thinking about it, the mess was there, weighing on me before I’d even started my day.
So, instead of waiting for that magical day when I’d have the energy to do a massive clear-out, I started adding little habits that actually make a difference. Here’s what’s been working for me:
1. Never Leave Empty-Handed
If I’m walking out of a room, I take something with me that doesn’t belong there. Heading to the kitchen? I’ll grab the empty mug from my bedside table. Walking to my room? I’ll take my jacket off the couch. It takes zero effort but stops clutter from piling up.
2. A 10-Minute Tidy Before Bed
Before I wind down for the night, I spend 10 minutes resetting my space—clothes in the cupboard, dishes in the sink, anything out of place back where it should be. Waking up to a tidy(ish) room makes mornings so much better.
3. The “Do I Actually Use This?” Test
If I haven’t used something in the last six months, and it’s not genuinely useful, why am I keeping it? I finally got rid of a pile of old chargers I was convinced I’d need one day (spoiler: I didn’t) and donated clothes I was “saving for the right occasion” but never actually wore.
These little habits have made a huge difference. The next three tips will take this to the next level, so make sure to check out Part 2 for more! 💛
