When You Feel Stuck: How to Move Forward in Life

Feeling stuck is one of the most frustrating places to be. It’s like knowing you want something different but having no clue how to get there—or worse, feeling like no matter what you do, nothing changes. I’ve been there. And if you have too, you’re not alone.

But here’s the thing: stuck isn’t a permanent state. It’s just a sign that something needs to shift. So instead of staying trapped in the same cycle, here are a few things that have helped me move forward when I felt like I couldn’t:

1. Stop Trying to ‘Figure It All Out’ at Once

Sometimes, we wait for a perfect plan before taking action. But waiting for clarity often keeps us stuck. Instead of obsessing over the big picture, start with small, doable steps. What’s one thing you can do today? Even if it’s tiny, forward is forward.

2. Change Something—Anything

Stagnation breeds frustration. If you can’t change the big things right now, change the small ones. Rearrange your space. Try a different morning routine. Take a new route home. Sometimes, even the smallest shifts create momentum.

3. Check Your Inner Dialogue

What are you telling yourself about this situation? “I’ll never get anywhere.” “What’s the point?” “I’m just not the type of person who can do this.” These thoughts feel real, but they’re not facts. Challenge them. Would you talk to a friend this way? If not, it’s time to rewrite the script in your head.

4. Reconnect With What Makes You Feel Alive

When life feels dull, it’s easy to detach from the things that once lit a spark in us. Revisit old hobbies. Try something creative. Spend time with people who inspire you. Sometimes, movement in one area of life spills over into everything else.

5. Get Comfortable with Imperfect Action

Overthinking leads to paralysis. Instead of waiting for the “right” moment, make peace with starting messy. You don’t have to get it all right—you just have to begin.

You’re not as stuck as you feel. Even now, just reading this, you’re already shifting your perspective. And that’s a start. 💛
